Ah, it's him!
Ah, tá sé dó!

It's him again!
Sin é arís!

So, you can fly now, can you?
Mar sin, is féidir leat eitilt anois, an féidir leat?

Sometimes... oh!
Uaireanta... Ó!

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.
I bpoll sa talamh bhí hobbit ina chónaí.

Many ages ago, when this ancient planet was not quite so ancient long before men recorded his history there was the time of Middle Earth, where men shared his days with elves, dwarves, wizards, goblins, dragons and... hobbits.
Go leor aoiseanna ó shin, nuair nach raibh an pláinéad ársa seo chomh ársa i bhfad sular thaifead fir a stair seo am an Mheán-Domhain, áit ar roinn fir a laethanta le elves, dwarves, wizards, gobáin, dragain agus ... hobbits.

In the lands of Middle Earth, in an area known as the Shire there was a village named Hobbiton.
I dtailte an Mheán-Domhain, i gceantar ar a dtugtar an Shire Sráidbhaile darb ainm Hobbiton a bhí ann.

There, in a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.
Bhí hobbit ina chónaí i bpoll sa talamh.

Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, nor a dry, bare, sandy hole.
Ní poll olc, salach, fliuch, ná poll tirim, lom, ghainmheach.

It was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
Poll hobbit a bhí ann, agus ciallaíonn sin compord.

Bilbo Baggins?
Bagúin Bilbo?

Ah, yes?
Sea?

- I'm looking to hire a burglar.
- Táim ag iarraidh buirgléir a fhostú. - Buirgléir?

- Burglar? I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place.
Tá eagla orm gur tháinig tú go dtí an áit mhícheart.

You mean you do not wish to share a grand adventure?
Ciallaíonn tú nach mian leat eachtra mhór a roinnt?

Dear me, no.
A chara, mise? Níl!

We hobbits are plain quiet folk.
Is daoine ciúin ciúin muid hobbits.

Adventures make one late for dinner.
Déanann eachtraí ceann déanach don dinnéar.

I am Gandalf, and Gandalf means me!
Is mise Gandalf. Agus ciallaíonn Gandalf mise!

Not the wondering wizard?
Nach é an draoi iontais? - Mar an gcéanna!

- The same! Listen.
"A dungeons domhain agus uaimheanna d'aois,

Thorin and company, at your service.
Thorin agus cuideachta, ag do sheirbhís.

Dwalin, Balin Kili, Fili Dori, Nori agus Ori.

Oin, sir, and Gloin, sir.
Oin, a dhuine uasail. Agus Gloin, a dhuine uasail.

Call him Bifur, and him, Bofur.
Ag glaoch ar Bifur. Agus dó, Bofur.

And Bombur at your service.
Agus Bombur ag do sheirbhís.

We are all at your service.
Táimid go léir ar do sheirbhís.

What do these dwarves want in Hobbiton?
Cad a theastaíonn ó na dumhcha seo i Hobbiton?

They've come for tea, and for supper and for you, Burglar Baggins!
Tá siad tagtha le haghaidh tae, agus le haghaidh suipéir agus ar do shon, Burgler Baggins!

- There's a magic in that music.
Caithfimid imeacht, briseadh an lae ... "

- And it moves through me.
- Tá draíocht sa cheol sin. - Agus bogann sé tríom.

- You feel the love of beautiful things.
Mothaíonn tú grá rudaí áille.

- To go and see the great mountains and hear the pine-trees and waterfalls.
Le dul agus na sléibhte móra a fheiceáil agus na crainn ghiúise agus easanna a chloisteáil.

To wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.
Claíomh a chaitheamh in ionad maide siúil.

Just once.
Díreach uair amháin.

Gandalf, dwarves and Burglar Baggins...
Gandalf, dwarves agus Burgler Baggins ...

What is this burglar business?
Cad é an gnó buirgléireachta seo?

If you prefer, you can say "expert treasure-hunter".
Más fearr leat, is féidir leat "sealgaire taisce saineolaí" a rá.

Well, yes, I do prefer that.
Bhuel, sea, is fearr liom é sin.

We have met tonight, in the house of our friend this most excellent hobbit.
Bhuaileamar le chéile anocht, i dteach ár gcara an hobbit is sármhaith seo.

May the hair on his toes never fall out!
Go dtitfidh an ghruaig ar a bharraicíní amach riamh!

Here, here!
Cheer-cheer!

We shall soon start on our long journey.
Is gearr go dtosóimid ar ár dturas fada,

Our object is, I take it, well known to us.
Is é an cuspóir atá againn, glacaim leis, go bhfuil aithne mhaith againn air.

All of us?
Gach duine againn?

It is not well known to me.
Ní eol dom go maith é.
